Nov 28, 2009Time for my Christmas List!

I can't believe there's only two days left of November. It seems like it was November 1st yesterday. What this means is that I'll only be hearing Christmas songs on the radio and in stores, seeing thousands of Christmas related ads on tv and the internet. Oh, and I can't forget the spammy emails from "Hallmark" for my "e-card from a friend", that is so cleverly hidden in a .exe file. Hello? I'm on a mac?

I've pretty much already given my Christmas list before in a previous entry. I wanted these four books, remember? Just yesterday, I got one of them, Blink, from my uncle who probably bought it from some far off country when he was visiting a friend in some European country that I've never heard of before.

Blink - The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

I haven't started it yet, but I hope to start it either later today or tomorrow sometime. That all depends on if I have the motivation to complete all my homework. Hehehe... :3

The only other thing that I would want for Christmas, besides those four books (now three) is money. Most of it would go into my bank account, but I would spend a little of it on an AirPort Extreme. I would buy the refurbished one and save $40, but I'll also look around online for an even cheaper one.

I have to admit, I did splurge a little yesterday on a gift for myself. We got an Xbox 360 a couple months ago (sometime in September) and all we have are single-player games, and it gets kind of annoying just sitting there watching someone play by themselves. It's also not as fun as playing with another person.

So I asked Jordan what would be a good multiplayer game. She recommended a couple games (Left 4 Dead 1 and 2) along with Halo 3. I went over to Youtube to see some reviews of the games and it seemed like Halo 3 was much more interesting to me, though it wasn't the first time I played it in a store last year. I looked for the cheapest deal in as many places as I could think of that would sell it - Target, Walmart, BestBuy, Amazon, Ebay, etc. The best price (with tax and shipping) was Newegg.com. I ordered it and called it a day.

I really have no clue what my mom or dad wants for Christmas and it will probably be a last minute present. I do, however, know what my cousin wants for Christmas. She would like another iPod Touch because the one she had was stolen out of her bag at school.

I felt so bad for her when we Skyped with her yesterday and she told us. I really hope that her parents let her get it because she doesn't ask for many things and I know it would make her ecstatic to open that gift. :)

Nov 25, 2009Pure CSS Layout

This may be the first pure CSS, in other words, no images, layout that I have made. Even if I have made another one before this one, I probably hated that one and changed it within a day or two of putting it up. It's very simple and that's what I was going for.

I have this really bad habit of starting designs in Photoshop and never getting around to finishing the PSD or coding it. When you work without images, making little changes is much easier. You don't have to go into a PSD, change a layer style, slice it, and save it; you may have to repeat this process a couple times to get it just right. With CSS, you edit a line of code and you see instant results.

Now, let me tell you. I took full advantage of CSS3 and it's powerful rgba and text shadow properties. The layout has only been checked in Firefox 3.5.5 on my mac (running Snow Leopard). If I get around to it, I'll check it in other browsers and on my PC because I know things are probably a little too bright for non-mac screens (or really good monitors).

And to throw in my random bit that I always do, I broke my Facebook account. It seems to be working now, but Facebook has been acting slow/weird lately, but what else is new with that site?
