Aug 11, 2009Server Change

This past week I changed my hosting account with Holdfire to a custom reseller instead of a custom shared. It was a little rough in the beginning, but I got everything worked out without 24 hours of ordering the new account. That's why I love Holdfire so much, they're support is awesome! Plus they're plans are super cheap and plenty of resources. :3

I'm now hosted on this server called dharma with 1GB of space (I'll upgrade if I need to, but I'm only using ~50MB of space right now) and 25GB of bandwidth which is way more than enough for my site. I also get this very fancy control panel like thing (called WHM) that controls all of the accounts in it. It originally didn't have the correct options for it, but Jordan (the mastermind behind Holdfire) fixed that quickly.

The reason I changed over to this new plan was because another-perfect-world.org is expiring in December and I didn't like how all of my add-on domains, subdomains, emails, databases, etc were through this domain I didn't even use any more. With this resell account if I ever buy more domains, I'll be able to keep them all in a separate cPanel configuration. The bottom line was I'm a total organization freak and like my sites separate. :P

In other non-related news, the scrolling wheel on my mighty mouse won't scroll vertically. Back to the apple store I go for my third...

    I'm on dharma too *dances*

    I have 8GB of space, lol. I'm using less than 200MB. That's why I offer to host people... I mean, if I'm paying for the space, somebody should get to use it. 8D

    Yay more Holdfire love! I'm on dharma as well. I have a custom with 5 GB space and the default 25 GB bandwidth. Both are more than I need, but I figured I'd have room to grow. It's only $44/year for my plan which is cheap considering usually resellers are expensive!

    You're wasting your time on the Mighty Mouse. I have a wireless optical mouse from *gasp* Microsoft and it rocks. :P

    I'm hosted over at Hostgator.com, I always go for the "unlimited" plans, don't know why. I guess it gives me a sense of not having to worry about anything. Are you just discovering WHM? When I had a reseller over at a different site the correct controls weren't available either until they fixed it, so I guess it's normal for that to happen.

    Why'd you order a reseller? Do you plan on hosting people? :)
@Anthony
: I wouldn't trust hosts that give out "unlimited" resources, check out this. As for why I changed, read paragraph three (right below the picture).

    Yeah, I read it and I know. I guess I enjoy having a false sense of security then. :P
    Plus, Hostgator hosts over 2 million sites and they've been great, so far.
    I might downgrade to a cheaper account, though.

    However, a lot of recommended hosts offer "unmetered" bandwidth, I don't think that's a bad thing. Besides, most sites state (in their TOS) what "unlimited and unmetered" really mean.

    I've always wanted a reseller, but really, I don't even need all that space. I barely use 50MB and hardly any bandwidth (how sad!). If I had several domains/projects going on, I'd do the same as you. I like to have everything organized, too.
