Pure CSS Layout November 25

This may be the first pure CSS, in other words, no images, layout that I have made. Even if I have made another one before this one, I probably hated that one and changed it within a day or two of putting it up. It's very simple and that's what I was going for.

I have this really bad habit of starting designs in Photoshop and never getting around to finishing the PSD or coding it. When you work without images, making little changes is much easier. You don't have to go into a PSD, change a layer style, slice it, and save it; you may have to repeat this process a couple times to get it just right. With CSS, you edit a line of code and you see instant results.

Now, let me tell you. I took full advantage of CSS3 and it's powerful rgba and text shadow properties. The layout has only been checked in Firefox 3.5.5 on my mac (running Snow Leopard). If I get around to it, I'll check it in other browsers and on my PC because I know things are probably a little too bright for non-mac screens (or really good monitors).

And to throw in my random bit that I always do, I broke my Facebook account. It seems to be working now, but Facebook has been acting slow/weird lately, but what else is new with that site?

    Yeah CSS is really great if you want instant results. Most of my designs are pur CSS unless I'm using a gradient somewhere. But this layout is incredible if you were going minimal. I love minimal designs. Mind making another version for download on your site? I'd credit ya ;)

    Sucks about Facebook >:(

    Normally, with the layouts that I make, the only image I use is the background image. I really like the color scheme of this layout. You're really good with colors.

    I prefer sites with images, actually. It adds extra dimension, in my opinion. My classmates only know XHTML/CSS at this point, and they can't do layouts with images and it bores me to death. I want things to look at and ooh and ahh over. Melly's design is a good example of this. Sites with images just get more attention, because they have more of a WOW factor, and seem more original in my opinion.

    @Jaylin & @Anthony - Thanks! :)

    @Aisling - Oh, of course! I prefer layouts with images too. I just decided to make one without. The images do add that extra "wow" factor you just can't get with CSS. Melissa's design is just breathtaking, I could stare at it for a long time, just looking at the opacity effects. Your new layout is also amazing. You have this really nice design style for hand-drawn things.

    I think this layout is wonderful. I've always been drawn to the simple layouts, and although this on certainly is simple, it's not boring or plain. I love the colors you used; they're very calming. And though Aisling is right about the images giving it a WOW factor, you purposely went for an all CSS layout, and I think you did a fantastic job on it. Kudos!

    I really love the colors you've selected! They work awesomely together. CSS3 is rather nifty! I think I'm going to have to have a play too! :D
