Let me give you some background info: my brother's going to college this fall and he obviously needs a laptop. He isn't a stupid kid so he knows that he's going to get one from someone between the end of the school year and September something-another. I have known that he's going to get a 13" MacBook Pro. My two uncles gave him the gift yesterday, because it was their graduation gift to him. If you know me, you can tell I'm jealous.
I've decided that instead of buying my D40x and 50mm lens, I'm going to say that money and put it towards a 17" MBP. Now, this isn't that last that I'll ever be talking about my Nikon. I'm hoping that after I get my mac that I'll be willing to spend the extra $400 to get it. It's something that I wouldn't just toss aside, it'll still be wanted. :P
Why did I change my mind? The first reason I already told you, I'm jealous. How can you not be jealous of someone who has something that you want? The second reason is because I sometimes can't get on the computer but have to do something my iPod can't. Now, I'm not saying that my iPod is a piece of crap and I'm going to stop using it. I would never. It's just that it can't do some things that I need (ie code). The final reason is because it's portable. That means that if I go on vacation or over to someone's house for a long amount of time, I can bring the laptop with me. Even if I don't have internet, I'll still be able to use my local server or draw something on Photoshop/Illustrator.
There you have it. My money goal for the next year/two years. I already have about $430 that I made, not received as a gift. That's another thing I'm going to do. Whatever money I can make/get, that isn't a gift for my birthday or Christmas, will be put towards the MBP. If I'm lucky I might be able to get it by sometime this winter, but otherwise I'll have it by the end of next summer for sure. :)
Uhhhh, I hate money talk. I want a new computer (because mine, although new, is a piece of crap), an SLR camera, and, well, I still need to save around $5000 for my road trip and London 2012. I so need to win the lottery. :P
Good luck with your saving! I'm trying to do the same thing - all money that I make or receive gets put in my bank account... except the birthday money that I just spent today. XD
Btw, I like the new layout, but it's hard to read the white on light blue in this textarea.
I have the 15'' and I LOVE IT. I tried playing on the 17'' but I found the screen to top heavy. Good luck saving :D! If you know someone with a student ID (college) you get a free ipod touch (if you dont get it at the end of winter and get it next summer that it) ;) I too want Nikon d40, but saving is hard when I'm already in school + have rent and such to pay.
I agree with Clem on the textarea, I had highlight what I was typing a few times to check it :P
The only thing holding me back from buying a Mac is the price. However, I find myself wanting one more and more every day!
That sucks that your brother got one... I'd sit there all day and just stare begging to use it haha.
Oh and I agree with both Clem and Naco about the textarea...
I've been wanting a MacBook Pro for a while now. My roommate went and got one about a week ago and I'm incredibly jealous. But we can't afford one now, so I'll be saving up money as well. Sigh. Hopefully we'll both be able to get it soon. :-)
