Feb 27, 2010Café Theme
I have semi-arbitrarily chosen the name "Cafe" to this design because that's the first thing that came to my mind while I was picking the colors and designing the header. Reds and browns always seem to remind me of coffee for some reason. You should check out this amazing picture of espresso foams.
I've finally decided to return to two column layouts... at least for this design. Single column layouts have their advantages, but I needed a change. The sidebar gives me a place to put things. Too bad I don't have anything to put there. Any ideas of what to put there? I have all my social media links, along with recent and related posts (when you're viewing a single entry).
I don't know how familiar you are with IconDock, but they have supplied me with my social media icons and my comment design is totally based off of theirs. There is no hiding it. The only difference is that mine doesn't use any images, pue CSS.
Overall I'm quite happy with this design. It uses some of my favorite colors in a shiny web 2.0 way. Let's hope it can stay up for a while. Maybe if I get tired of it I will just change the colors and/or fonts around to keep myself content.
I'm going to try and get a vlog up tomorrow. Hope I'm not too lazy and actually wake up at 7 o'clock!

I really like the design. I totally agree with you. It reminds me of a coffee house.

I like it, but in Chrome the little arrow next to the Gravatar runs over the image. I'm assuming it should be to the right of the image?

This is really nice! I especially like how you consider school a hobby :p

I think I can relate the colours to Cafe and I really like the font used in the header. The layout looks great! In the sidebar, maybe you can put your latest photos?

I really like the new layout. The only bug that I found with the layout is that in the comments an arrow mark needs to appear after the gravatar but it actually get's displayed on the image. Maybe you should add a bit of padding-left to it and get it in place.
Everything looks really cheerful and lively. Good work!

I really, really love this design! The colors do remind me of a café, actually.
I have to agree with Dayna. Why don't you put your latest flickr photos in your sidebar? Or your favorite ones (like the espresso foam!). I always love looking at people's latest photos. :-)

Wow, this is the first 2-column blog I've seen from since I started following your blog. This is pretty fantastic and I love the comments section.

Ooh, you're right about this theme resembling a café! I love it. It's all very nice. I especially love the pure CSS parts

My favorite part about the new layout is the comment section. I love the way you set it up. Nice work.

Oh, it changed from the last time I checked! Looks nice. You do simplicity so well~
The navigation is my favourite part. I just have this thing about hovers, okay. It's a fetish.

I want my next design to have a sidebar, too, although I don't need one. It's just nice to change the structure a bit!
What font did you use for the site name? It's pretty ~
