Feb 16, 2010A Photographer's MUST Download

In December when I first started to use my D90, I rarely edited the photos much before throwing them on flickr. I didn't really realize that it's almost impossible to get a PERFECT shot sooc. A couple weeks ago I stumbled onto Pioneer Woman's Action Sets.

They're absolutely wonderful. I would eventually learn to do what most of them do through tutorials and just messing around but this makes life so much easier. I can resize a picture, edit some things in Camera Raw, and hit a couple actions to make it look polished.

I used Boost and Quick Edge Burn for this one:

Cat Bed

The Seventies action and some contrast uping in Camera Raw helped this one:

Mi Madre

This shouldn't stop you from learning new things in Photoshop. But if you want a quick black and white picture, please, just hit the little play button.

It's kind of amazing what Photoshop can do to a photo, and actions are so convenient. I guess the struggle for me is getting a good photo in the first place! :P

Do you know if Photoshop extensions/sets/files work on Gimp? I'm too cheap to get Photoshop, so I stay with the free program.

@Ethan: This might help you: http://akvis.com/en/graphic-tips/gimp-add-plugins.php . And don't feel cheap for using Gimp, it may not be the shiniest and most fabulous application around but it better than most.

Those action sets are fabulous to "beauty up" the photographs. I didn't know they exist and have been doing it the manual way. Thanks for sharing! :)

This is exactly why I need to get PS! I've been wanting it for a while now, especially now that I take my photos in RAW mode and edit them. But it's really pricey, so I'd have to save up for it. Hopefully I do it soon, so I can at least take advantage of the educator's discount!

I love the way your photos turned out! *jealous*

The links give a 404 error... to download the actions. Those are amazing actions, though. Really great.
